SMART LIPOSUCTION RECOVERY GUIDE
SmartLipo Laser Liposuction is a new, innovative laser-assisted procedure that can be used alone, or in combination with tumescent liposuction, to achieve superior results when combining fat removal with skin tightening.
Like tumescent liposuction, SmartLipo removes fat through a cannula inserted into small openings in the skin. However, with SmartLipo, a laser is used to first melt the fat, helping with extraction and resulting in less swelling and bruising for faster recovery. In addition to melting pockets of fat, the laser energy also induces collagen growth while tightening lax skin.
SmartLipo is a minimally invasive treatment that only requires local anesthesia—enhancing client safety and reducing the likelihood of side effects. Typically only one short treatment session is needed, enabling you to get back to a normal schedule quickly.
Those “love handles,” “bat wings,” “muffin tops,” “saddlebags” and jowls that don’t respond to exercise and diet? They improve dramatically with greater results, minimal downtime, and less pain than traditional liposuction. Because Smartlipo actually tightens the skin through coagulation, you don’t have to worry about dimpling and sagging.
Here’s how it works
Local anesthesia is used (you’re awake during the procedure)
A tiny incision is made, about the size of the tip of a pen
The Smartlipo laser fiber is inserted through a very small tube into your body
The laser ruptures the fat cell membranes
The fat cells are permanently destroyed
The liquefied fat is gently suctioned out
New collagen is produced resulting in coagulation of skin, resulting in tightening
Typically, only one treatment is required dependent on the number of areas to be treated.
Results may vary, but usually can be seen within a week, with continued improvement over three to six months. After Smart Liposuction
After Laser Liposuction
Recovering from laser-assisted liposuction has proven to be easier than recovering from traditional liposuction procedures. For one thing, there are no stitches to deal with. Because the surgeon’s incision is so small, no stitches are needed to close the skin. Many people will feel a bit sore after their procedure, but so far studies have found no risk of any serious side effects. Because the laser closes off small blood vessels as it moves under the skin, there is less chance of bleeding, swelling and bruising than with conventional liposuction.
Some nutritional supplements help speed wound healing while others reduce bruising, swelling, and discomfort such as pain and itch. Others are recommended to prepare your body for the intense experience and increase resilience. We have done a blog post on those that are benificial to your recovery after Laser Liposuction here
Within a day after surgery, most patients can slowly resume their normal activities although doctors advise that they avoid strenuous exercise or hot tubs for about two weeks. Wearing special compression garments for a week or two after the procedure can speed healing. These close-fitting elastic garments can also reduce swelling.
Most people start seeing results within a week after the procedure, but it can take up to a full six months to achieve the final look. In the majority of cases, people need only one laser-assisted liposuction treatment to see results. However, some go back for minor touch-ups. It is possible to retreat the same areas, but patients need to wait at least four months between procedures. Laser-assisted liposuction also can be done before or after regular liposuction to hit hard-to-reach areas.
Laser-Assisted Lipo vs. Conventional Lipo
Conventional liposuction can remove more fat from larger areas than laser-assisted liposuction, but it does have a greater number of potential complications. This table shows how the two techniques stack up:
